Q&A with Phil King

What has your journey been like, leading up to the release of All Glory?

My journey has been really incredible, exciting, and a season for all of [God’s] promises fulfilled. It really all started when I began attending Gateway a few years ago. God began to do something very special and new in my heart that I really feel was preparation for the things that are happening now and the things that are still to come.

This last year especially has been a whirlwind of the Holy Spirit doing so many things, this album being one of them. Although I can’t see the full scope of what He is up to, I’m really glad that He seems to be using my life. Nothing makes me happier than getting to be a vessel for the Lord.

Leading up to the album, God was just dropping song after song into my heart and mind. I think I wrote about 65 songs for Jesus within the span of a few months. It has been supernatural to say the least. All of the pieces came together perfectly for this project, and it was one of the smoothest experiences I’ve ever been a part of.

What is your favorite song on the new album?

My favorite song might be the title track “All Glory.” It’s a song I originally heard in a dream one night, and it woke me up from my sleep. I love it because it reminds me of the worship we read about in Revelation chapters four and five. I love reading about the eternal throne room praise that is happening before Jesus that John writes about. It makes me very happy to have been given a song that reminds me of that.

What impact do you hope All Glory will have?

You know, my main hope as a worshiper and a songwriter is that these songs first impact the heart of God. True worship in Spirit and Truth is for the Father, and that’s my hope before anything else—that He hears these songs and that I get His “well done.” Beyond that, it is a blessing to see and hear songs that impact people’s lives the same way they impacted mine as I was writing them. I hope that they draw people to Jesus and the Church to loving Jesus more deeply.

What do you love about leading worship?

I love how it tunes me into God’s Presence. Worship isn’t something you can do without facing God directly. And that’s what I love most. It brings me face-to-face with how GOOD He is. Beyond that, it’s also so wonderful to look out and literally watch God touch people’s lives in worship as well.

What’s a fun fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?

I really love basketball, aviation, and art.

I’m a big Dallas Mavericks, World War 2 era aviation, and Bob Ross fan!

What are you looking forward to next?

I’m getting married in September to the love of my life, Kalyn Hemphill! I am really, really excited and looking forward to that! Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.

All Glory is available now!
